Module 04

Airflow Matrices

Fluid Dynamics in the Home

Thermodynamic optimization dictates that altering the *perceived* temperature is infinitely more energy-efficient than altering the *absolute* temperature of an entire volume of air. Mechanical fans manipulate localized fluid dynamics to accelerate heat shedding from the human epidermis.

By breaking the boundary layer of stagnant air around the body, flowing air accelerates natural evaporative cooling (sweat). A space at 78°F (25.5°C) with a moving air matrix of 2.5 meters per second feels equivalent to a stagnant room at 72°F (22°C).

Whole-House Exhaust Protocols

The whole-house fan is a brute-force fluid dynamic tool for specific diurnal environments (hot days, cool nights). Installed in the ceiling matrix linking the living space to the attic, this massive rotor creates extreme negative pressure within the envelope.

When initiated at dusk with lower-level windows open, the system aggressively evacuates trapped hot air through attic vents, instantly replacing the entire indoor air volume with cool external air. Operating a whole-house fan draws approximately 10-15% of the power required for a central air compressor.
